A chronological resume format is recommended for professional educators, including lecturers. The chronological resume format is the most widely accepted, and it places proper emphasis on your educational background and work experience.

To create your chronological resume, begin with your contact information and a list of your most relevant skills. Then, list your work experience and education in reverse-chronological order, that is, beginning with the most recent experience.

Functional and combination resume formats are not recommended for lecturers.


How should a lecturer resume look? The primary emphasis of your design should be to display a professional demeanor. This can be done in a few simple steps.

First, select your font. Use a single font throughout the document, and size it to eleven or twelve points. Do not use fancy or unusual fonts, as these can be difficult to read.

Next, group your information into logical sections. Give each section a heading, such as “Education,” “Experience,” or “Skills.” You can highlight the headings by making them slightly larger than the body text or by using bold or italic fonts. You may also choose to use borders, but avoid bright colors or distracting images.

Finally, leave plenty of white space or margin around each section of the text. This makes the resume easy to read and maintains a neat appearance.

Unless instructed to do so, do not include a photo with your lecturer resume. In the United States, unsolicited resume photos can result in the rejection of your resume due to anti-discrimination laws. Standards differ in other countries, however, so be advised that a photograph might be expected in some lands.

Work experience

Lecturers will have gained much experience through schooling, internships, and working in the academic community prior to becoming eligible for the job.
